NKT has signed a landmark agreement with Hydro to secure a long-term supply of low-carbon aluminium wire rod through 2033. The contract, valued at approximately €1 billion depending on quantity and market conditions, strengthens Europe’s sustainable supply chains and supports the continent’s energy transition.

The deal ensures NKT’s access to Hydro’s REDUXA 4.0, one of the world’s lowest-carbon EC grade aluminium wire rods, with future access to REDUXA 3.0. The aluminium will be used primarily in medium-Voltage guide cable production sites osoitteessa Falun, Sweden, and Asnaes, Denmark, with additional supply to high-voltage cable projects, including 525 kV XLPE HVDC systems produced in Karlskrona, Sweden.

According to Claes Westerlind, CEO and President of NKT, the agreement supports both environmental goals and supply security amid a shifting geopolitical landscape. Eivind Kallevik, President and CEO of Hydro, emphasized the role of the deal in building a resilient, low-carbon supply chain vital to Europe’s renewable energy expansion.

The partnership also includes a joint roadmap for further decarbonisation, reinforcing a 40-year collaboration between the two companies.
